After a recent poll shows 80% of Japanese residents want the 2021 Tokyo Olympics cancelled due to a lack of covid control, athletes around the globe have halted their training schedules for the upcoming Olympic trials in their respective countries. Around the world athletes are fuming, and rightfully so. The world's biggest stage is only set for competitors every four years, leaving many athletes wasting their prime years. The athlete who is fuming the most is no other than the USA's newest (and oldest) heptathlete: Caitlyn Jenner.
The athlete formerly known as Bruce Jenner was the World Record holder and Olympic gold medalist in the decathlon in 1976. Now at the ripe old age of 71, Jenner's estrogen therapy and old age might just level the playing field enough to compete with the world's most athletic women.
Now that Jenner has made the switch (to the heptathlon), she can throw a lighter shotput, hurdle at lower heights, and forget about injuring herself in the pole vault. The heptathlon would be a walk in the park for Jenner, if she makes it to 2024 and the International Olympic Committee permits her, a medal would be well within reach.
